New company, well-seasoned founders
Sierra Sustainable Business Consulting was founded in January, 2025. While the company is new, the founders are well-seasoned, having established and managed DataMergence Inc. from 2001 to 2013. DataMergence was a global consulting firm focused on SAP-integrated content management and digital imagining to reduce paper waste and facilitate searchability of mission-critical documentation. In 2013 the founders moved into the larger corporate world to expand their knowledge and experience. After nearly 11 years working with SAP Sustainability Services, and a brief sabbatical, our president and CEO founded Sierra SBC in order to continue offering the technical knowledge and experience gained while supporting SAP sustainability solutions. We continue to work closely with SAP's sustainability teams to provide the best support possible for SAP customers.
At Sierra Sustainable Business Consulting we walk our talk. Our main office is located in the Sierra foothills of California. The building has a passive solar design that keeps the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and provides natural lighting during daylight hours. Renewable energy is supplied by a solar system with battery backup, which provides 100% of our energy needs. Electric vehicles charged by the renewable energy are used for transportation to and from the office. Extra renewable energy production is fed back to the grid.

Why start a sustainability consulting firm now?
Over the past 20 years we've lived through extreme changes in our local climate and temperatures. We survived a 7-year drought, when water was so precious that showers became a once a week luxury. This was followed by 3 years of extremely heavy rains, flooding, and loss of life. During each of the past 10 summers we've watch from our hilltop perch as smoke rises, wildfires grow, helicopters and water tankers battle, and entire communities lose everything. We've measured 120+ degree days over the last 3 summers. Plants that typically bloomed in early April are now blooming in mid-February, and losing their buds as temperatures swing from 80 degrees to 40 degrees in a few days, and extreme winter storms blow in again with the force of a speeding freight train. We understand and appreciate that we're doing much better than many other regions on our planet, and that our actions impact everyone everywhere. This is why sustainability is our life and our work.
